Violin Pro-Hold
Maintains Your Best
Holding Position

Violin Pro-Hold is holding violin on the shoulder

For violin and viola players seeking a more secure and effortless way to hold their instrument, the Violin Pro-Hold™ offers a unique solution that works with almost all shoulder rests. This innovative magnetic system is designed to provide consistent positioning and stability.

Benefits of Using the Violin Pro-Hold™

  • Ergonomic Design: The magnetic system is designed to maintain your optimal playing position with less neck pressure. This promotes a more relaxed posture, which is fundamental to developing good technique and preventing long-term strain or injury.

  • Freedom of Movement: The magnetic connection is strong enough to keep the instrument in place, yet allow expressive movement while playing. You can move your head and body freely without the fear of the instrument slipping.

  • Compatibility: The Pro-Hold™ is designed to be compatible with nearly all violin and viola shoulder rests, including popular brands like Kun, Everest, Wolf and too many others to list. This allows you to use your existing rest while adding the benefits of the magnetic support.

  • Versatile Fit: The Pro-Hold™ adjusts to your individual body form, making it suitable for all body shapes and sizes. It was developed after much research and consultation with players of various styles and levels.

Who is it For?

The Violin Pro-Hold™ can be a great option for:

  • Beginning Students: It helps them establish a consistent and relaxed holding position from the start, preventing the development of bad habits.

  • Amateurs and Professionals: Anyone who plays for long periods and wants to minimize fatigue and strain on their neck and shoulder.

  • Players Experiencing Discomfort: For players having trouble holding their shoulder rest in position or experiencing discomfort, the Pro-Hold's anchoring system can help.

It's important to remember that the Violin Pro-Hold™ is a support device, not a replacement for a proper shoulder rest and chin rest setup. It's designed to enhance the stability and comfort provided by your existing equipment so you can find and maintain your optimal holding position.

How it Works

Violin Pro-Hold Components

The Violin Pro-Hold is a thin, light weight magnetic support system with three main components:

  • A. MagBase Strip™: A soft and flexible strip is placed under your clothing, creating a comfortable, discreet and stable magnetic anchor on your shoulder.

  • B. SecureMag™: A small magnetic square secures the MagBase Strip™ in place and is placed either over or under your clothing.

  • C. RestMag Strap™: A soft flexible velcro-like strap with a magnet wraps around your shoulder rest. This allows it to magnetically connect to the MagBase Strip and effectively anchor the instrument to your shoulder.

Easy to Detach and Attach: You can easily detach your shoulder rest magnet with a gentle lift or a little finger leverage between the magnets. When you return your instrument back to its optimal position, it quickly connects to the magnet under your shirt with a very satisfying “click” so you can focus on your playing, not on adjusting your hold.

Easy to Install

Violin Pro-Hold component installed under a light shirt

For one light weight shirt layer (Photo 1):

  • Place the black MagBase Strip™ (A) under your shirt. Ensure one white dot is facing up and forward to utilize one magnet.

  • Adhere the black SecureMag™ (B) over your shirt. This will hold the Mag-Base Strip™ securely in place.

For two shirt layers (Photo 2):

  • Place the black velvet-like MagBase Strip™ (A) under your outer shirt or inner shirt. For a heavier shirt or jacket, orient two white dots facing up and forward to utilize two magnets.

  • Attach the black velvet-like SecureMag™ (B) under or over your inner shirt to sandwich your clothing and secure the MagBase Strip™ in place. Or you can place the SecureMag™ over the outer shirt layer as shown in Photo 1.

Install RestMag Strap™ (Photo 3):

  • Wrap the black velcro-like RestMag Strap™ (C) tightly around your shoulder rest and fasten the hook and loop in the back.

  • The slight magnet protrusion will nestle into foam-padded shoulder rests for optimal comfort.

Testimonials

Sketch of violinist using Violin Pro-Hold

"I purchased Pro-Hold several weeks ago and it’s been a great aid in supporting the instrument. It’s a simple, elegant solution to a nagging problem that I and many other players may experience. Pro-Hold is very comfortable and extremely secure without being static. When you raise the violin into place, it attaches itself with a very satisfying “click”. You don’t notice it’s there until those moments when it’s required. It’s such a relief, be able to adjust my positioning from time to time with confidence, knowing that the instrument will not move out of place."   Greg Badigian

"The best feature in my opinion is its flexibility. The fact that it attaches to one's clothing allows movement through a range of expressive motion without fear that the instrument will drift out of position!  Thank you for a wonderful addition to the world of violin playing."   Greg Badigian

"Through my experience with this device, I have found that it stays securely fastened to the shoulder, with minimal pressure needed from the chin and neck. It will stay in place with one hand, even in the absence of pressure, rendering it a highly suitable tool for violinists and violists who struggle with chronic tension or sustained a neck or shoulder injury, and aspire to continue playing their instrument."    Betty Schoonover  Schoonover String Studios

About Violin Pro-Hold

We are dedicated to enhancing the musical experience for all violin and viola players. Our proprietary adjustable magnetic system (Patent Pending) ensures a secure and comfortable hold for violin and viola shoulder rests. Proudly made in the great state of Oklahoma, USA, the Violin Pro-Hold is the result of a personal journey and a commitment to innovation.

The Inspiration

The inventor and owner, Ken Ruhnke, was motivated to create this adjustable magnetic system following a neck injury. His quest to find a more comfortable and secure way to hold his violin led him to a demonstration by violinist Daniel Kurganov. Kurganov used a magnet under his shirt and another magnet over his shirt connected to a rubber band to hold his violin on his shoulder. Inspired by this, Ken began experimenting with various magnets and configurations, incorporating valuable suggestions from many violinists and engineers at the OSU New Product Development Center.

Dr. Yein Lee D.O., a physician at the Texas Center for Performing Arts Health, Fort Worth, Texas, utilized a physical therapist to successfully treat Ken. Dr. Lee found the magnetic system ingenious and immediately recognized its potential to benefit other musicians. She is a violinist, uses the Violin Pro-Hold, and thought it would also help her patients.

Our Commitment

We are committed to helping musicians of all ages and skill levels achieve their best playing experience. Our adjustable magnetic system is designed to reduce strain on the neck, head, and shoulder muscles, promoting a more relaxed and enjoyable practice and performance and helping prevent injuries.

Join us in revolutionizing the way you hold your instrument and experience the difference the Violin Pro-Hold can make in your musical journey.
